Set a custom event link

Updated September 1, 2026 · 2 min read

In short

Paid plans can give an event a readable address like partyreel.com/e/maya-and-sam. The permanent link and QR code keep working; changing the custom link breaks the old address, with no redirect.

Applies toProEvent Pass

Every event has a permanent link made of a long random address. A custom link is a second address you choose, readable enough to put on a sign or say out loud. Both open the same event.

  1. Dashboard
  2. Your event
  3. Settings
  4. Event link

In the Event link card, type your address after the /e/ prefix in the Custom link field, or tap the suggestion Partyreel derives from the event name. It checks availability as you type and tells you whether the address is free or taken. Tap Save link.

The rules: lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens; between 3 and 50 characters; no hyphen at the start or end. A few words are reserved, and anything that looks like a permanent link's random address is refused.

Custom links are a Pro & Event Pass feature. On the free plan the card shows an upgrade link instead of the field. The same control is offered on the Share step when you create an event.

What stays the same

The permanent link and the QR code never change. Printed codes stay valid whether you add, change, or remove a custom link, because the code always encodes the permanent address. The custom link is a convenience on top, not a replacement.

Change and Remove both ask you to confirm, and both come with the same warning: the current custom address stops working right away, with no redirect. Anyone who saved it needs the new one, and the freed address becomes available to any other event.

If you later move to the free plan, an existing custom link keeps working and you can still remove it; you just can't change it or set a new one.

A custom link earns its keep under a QR code on a screen and in a spoken announcement; see print your QR code, or put it on a screen. If someone hits an old address, the QR code won't scan, or the link won't open explains what they saw.

Where a custom link earns its keep

Under a QR code on a screen, in a spoken announcement, and on printed invitations that go out before the event exists. Everywhere else, the copied permanent link is just as good.
