A password puts a door on the link: the event's name and photo count show on the outside, and everything else waits until a guest types the password from your invitation.

Set a password
Under What the link opens, choose Private, then A password under Who may join. Type a password of at least 4 characters and tap Set password: setting it makes the password the album's gate in the same step, and the row then reads Password is set.
Partyreel never shows the password again, so write it down where you'll find it: it's the one thing to share with guests separately from the link, on the invitation or by message.
What guests see
The locked page shows the event's name and how many photos are inside, over a ghosted grid. They tap Unlock after entering the password and the album opens. It stays open on that device for about 12 hours, then asks again. A wrong password gets a gentle retry; five wrong tries in a row pause things for a few seconds. See messages guests might see.
If the album also asks for an email first, the password comes first and the email second.
Guests already in
A guest who has joined the album (given a name or confirmed an email there) is in, and someone already in passes the password without typing it: on every phone they're signed in on, or on the phone they joined with. So a password added mid-party stops newcomers and leaves your guests where they are. Only Only me, or blocking someone, puts out a guest who's already in.
Change or remove the password
Change sets a new password immediately: guests already in stay in, and anyone who had only unlocked the album needs the new one once their unlock expires. Remove takes the password off and makes the album Public. Both save on their own.
Two things to know
- Uploads respect the lock. Nobody new can add a photo without having unlocked the album, even with a link that was working before you set the password.
- It's on every plan, the free plan included, so a password stays yours to set, change, or remove whatever you pay.
A password, or another gate?
A password is for guests you'd rather not ask for anything but a word: it's a door with a key. For a party where you'd rather see who's coming in, You let each person in holds every newcomer at the door until you say so, and Your invite list lets in the addresses you name. Only me is a wall: only you. See who can see your event.
