There's one kind of Partyreel account. Hosts use it to run events, guests use it to keep their uploads and the events they added to, and the same account does both. There's no separate sign-up either: the first time an address shows up, it becomes an account on the spot.
The email code, first

Enter your email and tap Email me a code. The email carries a 6-digit code and a sign-in link; type the code on the Check your email screen, or just tap the link. A new address becomes an account right here; a known one simply signs in. Guests joining an event see the same code inside the event page, so a guest who later hosts already has an account.
Tap Continue with Google and pick your Google account. Same rule as the code: a new address gets an account, a known one signs in.
A password, if you set one
The sign-in screen leads with the code, but a quiet link underneath, Have a password? Use it instead, opens a password field for anyone who already has one. Nothing creates a password here: the only way an account is first made is the code, or Google.
Same email, same account
Partyreel matches accounts by verified email. Sign in with Google one day and with a code the next, and as long as both use the same address you land in the same account, with the same events. Two different addresses are two different accounts, and that includes aliases like a plus-tag on a Gmail address.
If a code or Google confirms an address that already had an account, you'll see one line, Signed you into the account naming it, already had. It's dismissible; if it's wrong, Not you? Sign out and use another email backs out and clears the field.
No password? That's fine
Most accounts never set one. You can add a password any time from your account page, or keep using a code and Google forever.

On your account page, the Password card lets you add a password if you don't have one, or change the one you have. Changing asks for your Current password first; a new password needs at least 8 characters. Tap Set password or Change password to save.
Forgot your password?
Tap Forgot password? next to the password field. Partyreel emails you a code; once you enter it you're signed in and taken straight to a screen where you pick a new password. If the code doesn't show up, see the email code didn't arrive.
Your name, right after
The first time you sign in on a new account, before you can create an event or add a photo, Partyreel asks for the name your guests will see; see your display name and photo.
Your email address
The email on your account is the one you verified. It shows on your account page under Email, with a Change beside it: a code goes to your current address and one to the new one, and the address changes once you've entered both. The walk is in your display name and photo.
If a sign-in keeps failing, you can't sign in walks through the usual causes.
