What you can upload: formats and sizes

Whatever your phone shoots, you can upload, at the size it was shot. There's no compression, no conversion, and no quality setting to worry about.

Photos

JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and HEIF (the iPhone default), and AVIF. A HEIC stays a HEIC: it's stored and downloaded exactly as your phone made it. Thumbnails show everywhere, but the full-size view opens only in browsers that can display HEIC (Safari on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac); on Android, Windows, or Chrome, tap Save and open the file in a photo app.

Videos

MP4, MOV (also the iPhone default), and WebM. Videos upload only on events whose host is on a paid plan; a free-plan event is photos only, and the page tells you This event accepts photos only. if you try. There's no length limit on a video, only the size limit below. If a video plays on one phone and not another, see a video won't play.

Sizes

Every file can be up to 10 GB. That's the universal ceiling on every event. A host can set a smaller per-file limit for their guests. A file over it is refused with a message naming the limit; the fix is a shorter clip or a smaller export.

Anything over 100 MB uploads in pieces behind the scenes, so a long video survives a wobbly connection better than you'd expect. It still needs to finish within a couple of hours of starting.

What's stripped, and what isn't

Before an upload leaves your phone, Partyreel removes the hidden metadata that carries location and device details from JPEG, PNG, WebP, MP4, and MOV files. The picture itself isn't touched, and orientation is kept so nothing turns sideways. HEIC, HEIF, AVIF, and WebM upload as they are. See photo metadata and location data.

What there isn't

• No captions. A photo is just the photo; your name is attached automatically if you're signed in.
• No editing. Crop or filter on your phone first if you want to.
• No other formats. Screenshots and saved images are fine; a GIF, a TIFF, or an AVI is refused with That file type isn't supported.
